Daffodil Valley Elementary will be dismissed TODAY (11/17), tomorrow (11/18) and Friday (11/19) at 11:40am.

Monday, 11/22, will be our normal late-start Monday (school starts at 9:45am and dismisses at 3:10pm).

Tuesday, 11/23 will also be an Early Release day- students will be dismissed at 11:40am.

Please call the front office at 253-891-4600 if you have to make other pick-up arrangements.

Homecoming Parade for 5th grade!

Attention 5th grade DVE students and families!

We have been been invited to walk in the annual Sumner High School Homecoming parade!

When: Friday, Oct 8, 2021

Time: 4:00-5:00p.m.

Where: Meet us at Heritage Park (downtown Sumner) at 4:00 p.m. for set up. Then we will be walking down Main street (toward Valley Ave.) in the parade! Please pick your child up at the end of the parade route, in the Sunset Bowl parking lot!

Note: Please wear DVE colors, blue and yellow, or your spirit wear!

Drop Off Safety Issues

A few reminders to help us keep kids safe at morning drop off:

Adult supervision of students is available beginning at 8:10. School starts at 8:25. Please do not drop your student off in front of the school and leave them unattended before 8:10.

Students may not be dropped on Daffodil Valley and run across to the school. We've witnessed several close calls and do not want anyone to be hurt.

Here are the morning drop off options:
- Car drop off lane in front of school.
- Park in the front parking lot and walk student to cross walk.
- Park at church on Daffodil Ave and walk your student or ensure that they use a crosswalk.

Drop Off and Pick Up Safety

We are so grateful for the cooperation of our families as we've adjusted to new pick up and drop off routines. Things are running smoothly with afternoon dismissal taking about 20 minutes. Our number one goal is to get kids to the appropriate dismissal location and match them with their parent/guardian in a safe, timely and orderly fashion. Our next goal is to get our Dolphins to walk with purpose to their pick up location which will help speed things up.

A few reminders to help us keep kids safe:
- If you are dropping off in the carline - please DO NOT exit your car. Have your student ready to unload and follow the adult directions. If your child needs a bit more time to transition, we ask that you park and walk them to the front doors.
- If you park outside the school parking lot and walk to the entrance - please DO NOT cross between the buses. We prefer you go to the nearest crosswalk, but definitely ask you to avoid the bus area altogether.
Thank you families for your patience and cooperation - it's making a huge difference. With your help we can tighten these systems and keep kids safe.

Free/Reduced Lunch

Both Breakfast and Lunch are free this year HOWEVER here's how filling out the Free and Reduced Lunch form can help:
- Qualify your student/family for lower or no fees for Sports, Activities, Field Trips, and Fines.
- Funds smaller class sizes.
- Funds extra staff to support students in their academics and social emotional learning.
If you think you may qualify we want to encourage you to fill out the attached form. This will not only help your family but help our school continue to provide some of the services we so greatly value.

Digital Device Coverage

Did you know you are personally responsible for the loss or damage to any digital device your student checks out from the district? Each student at Daffodil has a device currently assigned to them for use at school, we encourage you to consider protecting this device.

If your student has to quarantine, or have an extended absence they will likely need a chromebook. We encourage you to purchase this optional coverage through Assurance which covers any damage or theft of your chromebook or hotspot.

Prices are discounted by 20% through the end of September:

New Sumner Park Coming Soon - Give your Input

Dreaming of a pump track? Wish a dog park was close by? How about additional soccer fields or volleyball courts?
The City of Sumner is working with the community to identify improvements to Seibenthaler Park (corner of 16th & Bonney Ave) as well as the new 3.96 acre park at (4811 East Valley Hwy). Thank you!

What a fantastic first week we've had with our Dolphins. Your kids are THE BEST and I am so thankful each day I get to spend at this school supporting the staff and students to make this a great place to be and to learn. I am grateful for our families and the support you've shown during this unprecedented time. As we worked to get our arrival and departure routines tightened up I want to give a big shout out to all of our families for their patience, humor and understanding. We've made a lot of progress teaching students where to go at the end of the day, tightened some routines for safety and are working each day to make the system more efficient and safe for all of our students and families.
I hope your student has had a good week and is excited to be at Daffodil. It's a big adjustment for a lot of our Dolphins to be back 5 days a week, they may be a bit tired and weary this weekend but I assure you they will build stamina and adjust to the routine, we are all in the same boat getting back into the rhythm of a more normal year.

Qué fantástica primera semana hemos tenido con nuestros Dolphins. DVE Morning Arrival

As we begin the school year safety is our top priority. In order to ensure we meet health guidelines we ask that you look over this document and familiarize yourself with the procedures around morning arrival. Parents/Guardians will not be allowed to enter the school building to walk students to class. All entrances will be locked and monitored. Please ring the doorbell if you'd like to talk to the office staff and we will let you in. Students will enter the school grounds according to their arrival method. Car drop off will enter through the front door and buses through the side door. Walkers will need to come to the front entrance.

Arriving by Car
Enter the car drop off area in the front parking lot. Cars will pull to the end of the drop off zone in the drop off lane. Students will exit and enter through the main entry doors to the school.

Arriving by Foot

Students walking to school must enter through the front of the school. We ask that they come through the main doors. Parents/Guardians are not permitted to walk students to the classrooms. We are sorry for this inconvenience and will work to help your child adjust and have a great start to their day.

Arriving by Bus

Bus Riders will enter the school building near the library and then move on to their classroom.

DVE Afternoon Dismissal

Early Pick Up:
- Parents/guardians who wish to have their child dismissed early for an appointment will need to call in advance and let us know and then call upon arrival. They may pull into the main parking lot and we will escort each child to their car.
- We will not be able to dismiss students after 2:45pm. Beginning at 2:45pm students will need to be picked up as part of the school wide dismissal procedure.
Regular Dismissal:

We will be using Silent Dismissal. Each family should have a car tag with a number. Please have this displayed in your car window or available as you walk up.

It is extremely important that families have this tag at pick up.
- Staff will enter your number, which then notifies the teacher to dismiss your student to the appropriate location.
- Families with multiple children will just need one tag, your students are linked in the system.
- If a replacement is needed, call the office and we can get a new one.
- At the beginning of the year, communicate with families to find out about the pick up location (i.e., car pick up, walking back area, walking front of school pick-up, bus) and we will log that as the usual way that student is dismissed.
- Please email your teacher in the morning/ or call the front office at (253)891-4600 if there is a pick up location change.
Pick Up - NEW LOCATIONS

Walkers

Students in 3rd-5th grade may be dismissed to walk home without an adult, with parent permission. Please notify the front office if this is the case. They may also pick up younger siblings and walk home.

Parents/guardians walking to meet their students will need to have the Silent Dismissal Number and come to the front of the school or to the back pick up location. The code will be entered and the student will know to come to that location.

Walking pick up locations are: Front of school and back area by the gym door.

Car Pick-Up

We will have 2 car pick up lanes on the playground behind the school. We ask that families follow all signs and pull their car forward. We will be loading 2 lanes at a time and releasing those lanes once all cars are loaded, allowing the next group to stage for loading of students. Please follow staff directions to help ensure safety of the students as they load into cars. We ask that you have patience as parents/families learn the system. It generally takes about a week for everything to begin to run smoothly.

Please do not arrive before 3pm to pick up your child using the car line. We will not be able to open the gates to form a line until that time and would love to avoid a long line on Valley Ave. One friendly tip - the earlier you come the longer you wait - our process once underway takes 15 minutes start to finish. Families who arrive around 3:15 spend less time waiting.

DVE Open House- Thursday, September 2nd

Hooray! We are SO excited to welcome you to come see your child's teacher/class IN PERSON. This is an exciting milestone and we want to ensure we keep kids/families/staff safety in mind but also allow students/families to be in our building, see their classroom and meet the teacher before the first day of school.

Open House will be held Thursday, September 2nd from 5-7pm. In order to be in compliance with safety regulations we are staggering times so we can limit the number of people in the building. Open House hours will be by the letter of your student's last name:

A-M: 5:00-6:00pm

N-Z: 6:00-7:00pm

Your student should have received a postcard in the mail early this week to let them know who their teacher is and classroom location! If you moved over the Summer, please call the main office (253)891-4600 to update your address.

Safety Precautions
- As a reminder, masks are a requirement to enter our building, no exceptions.
- You will be able to find your child's seat, see the classroom, and quickly greet the teacher.
- If possible please limit the number of family members in attendance to assist in social distancing

We are so excited for the 2021-2022 school year to begin! First day of school is Tuesday, September 7th. Classroom doors open at 8:10am, and the final bell is at 8:25am.
We will be having late start MONDAYS this year starting Monday, September 13th. Doors open at 9:45am, and the final bell is at 10am.

DVE Open House- Thursday, September 2nd

We are excited to welcome parents/students into the building to check out your classroom on Thursday, September 2nd. In order to be in compliance with safety regulations we are staggering how many families/students will be in the building. We will be splitting our Open House hours by the letter of your student's last name-

Student Supply Fee- $20

In order to provide some relief from back to school shopping - we will be asking Daffodil Valley families for a $20.00 donation to cover the cost of school supplies. The office will be open to receive these fees starting on Tuesday, August 31st. You can come into the office between the hours of 8am-3pm to pay those fees, during our Open House hours, over the phone, or online.

Instructions for Online Payment of School Supply Fee of $20 (this covers supplies for your student this year).

NEW Parent Pick-UP route
We will be continuing to use our Silent Dismissal procedure we used last year, but needed to change our pick-up route to accommodate more parent pick-up cars. Please reference the attached map.
For those families new to DVE, you will be receiving additional information, as well as pick-up numbers explaining our Silent Dismissal program during our Open House (9/2).

Silent Dismissal Procedures

During this time, so that we may ensure safety for staff and students, the office is closed to visitors or drop ins. Families must call ahead and make an appointment. School is from 8:25-3:10. Student dismissal begins at 3:10.

Early Pick Up:
- Parents/guardians who wish to have their child dismissed early for an appointment will need to call in advance and let us know and then call upon arrival. They may pull into the main parking lot and we will escort each child to their car.
- We will not be able to dismiss students after 2:45pm. Beginning at 2:45pm students will need to be picked up as part of the school wide dismissal procedure.
Regular Dismissal:

We will be using Silent Dismissal. Each family should have a car tag with a QR code like the one below. This will be used for pick up via car, or walking.

It is extremely important that families have this car tag at pick up.
- Teachers need to have Silent Dismissal open on their computer (projected is best) by 3:05.
- Staff will scan the QR code, which then notifies the teacher to dismiss your student to the appropriate location.
- Families with multiple children will just need one tag.
- If a replacement is needed, direct families to call the office and we can get a new one.
- At the beginning of the year, communicate with families to find out about the pick up location (i.e., car pick up, walking back area, walking front of school pick-up, bus) and we will log that as the usual way that student is dismissed.
- Please email your teacher in the morning/ or call the front office at (253)891-4600 if there is a pick up location change.
Car Pick-Up

We will have 2 car pick up lanes on the playground behind the school. We ask that families follow all signs and pull their car forward. We will be loading 2 lanes at a time and releasing those lanes once all cars are loaded, allowing the next group to stage for loading of students. Please follow staff directions to help ensure safety of the students as they load into cars. We ask that you have patience as parents/families learn the system. It generally takes about a week for everything to begin to run smoothly.
Walkers
Students in 3rd-5th grade may be dismissed to walk home without an adult, with parent permission. Please notify the front office if this is the case. They may also pick up younger siblings and walk home.

Parents/guardians walking to meet their students will need to have the QR code and come to the front of the school or to the back pick up location. The code will be scanned and the student will know to come to that location.

Walking pick up locations are: Front of school and back area by the gym door.
